The Truth of Happiness
Project Description:
Thought this project we explore psychology. The main thing that we studied through this project was happiness. We were working to answer the question "What is the truth of happiness?" We answered this question by watching films and reading articles about all sorts of different things that affect peoples happiness and at the end of the project we made a film about what makes us happy.

The Truth of Happiness Project Reflection
The truth of happiness for me is family and friends. Although I am not a very social person I notice that I am more happy when I am talking with my family or playing games with my friends. One thing that adds to my happiness is computers and technology because I enjoy playing video games with my friends and helping my family with their tech problems. Technology has helped my find my passions in life and has increased my happiness by allowing me to connect to people without being face to face.
The greatest challenge that I faced throughout this project is myself because I don't like sharing my true self with people. This was a challenge in this project because the entire project was about feelings and our personal feelings about happiness. Me being me I didn't enjoy this project and I got bad grades on all my work because I like to keep myself in a shell. The way that I overcome this problem is by taking to the teacher about doing a personal project that will help me connect with the project more. This gave me the opportunity to express the real me without feeling uncomfortable.
During this project I worked in a group and I learned that I like to do my own thing in a group. An example of this is when I told my group to do all the filming and at the end of the project I would do all the editing and this made it easy for me to work because I got to do something I enjoy while doing this project. In this project I grew al a learner in the ways that I was a group director which means that I told the group what to do and then left them to do the work without to much input from me. I didn't help them film because I didn't want to have the film go from one style to a completely different style.
If I were to to change on part of this project I would make the amount of time that we have to film/edit to around three to four weeks and decrease the time on other things that I liked doing less or things that I didn't find helpful for the final project. The reason that I would increase the amount of time to film /edit is because at the end of the project everyone got a week long extension and before that I noticed that people were stressed including me.

Socialization and Mask Project
This project was about how we were socialized by things such as media, race, age, gender, etc. The final product from this project was an exhibition about what we learned and how it affects society. The content that we learned during this project was teaching us about how we were socialized.
My Mask
Mask Paragraph
My mask is based on a video that I found called Mask, A short film about a boy who hides his true emotions under a mask, this video inspired me because it shows that we all go through something but we hide it with a mask. On the outside of my mask, it is full of cracks that represent that people are broken on the inside. I put a mask on the outside to show that we hide our true selves under a mask that shows perfection. On the inside of the mask, I put words that show what we really thing but that we don't share with others. Project Reflection
My writing has not changed to much. What I learned about writing through this project is the TEA paragraph form an example of this is my essay. I am not proud of my essay because I waited till the last minute to get it done so it was full of typos that I fixed after I got my grade. The TEA paragraph is very similar to the five paragraph essay format so I already new how to write my paragraphs. I just had to learn how to write using more evidence. This project has taught me how everything that I know has been taught to me by other people before me. All of the content we learned throughout this project has changed me because I know why I think the way I do and why I do the things I do. For me one of the biggest things I learned during this project was that media affects most of my life because I listen to music play video games and watch films all the time and that is how I learn everything. After this project I noticed that everything I do I base it off things that I like. Another thing that I noticed was that when I was a kid I would see the older kids and try to act like them because I thought that was the norm. I feel that I have grown as a project worker because I spent a lot of time working with my group to make our room the best looking we could in the short amount of time we had to prepare before exhibition. Another reason I think I grew as a project worker is because I tried to make our room as least offensive as we could because earlier we learned about how when we make a product we have to think about the users. As a group member I feel I did equal work as my other group members because we all brought things to set up the rooms and we also set up all the lights and curtains. Overall this project was good at the start but when exhibition time came around people got stressed and would get mad if you do anything slightly off task and made the whole exhibition boring. |
How We Are Socialized
Have you ever wonder why you act the way you act? Socialization is the reason why we all act the way we do. We are taught things from a young age about how we should act or what we should think. Socialization is taught unconsciously because most people think that it is human nature. Everyone is socialized in similar ways and for a lot of people, it is usually Race, Class, and Gender which are the topics that have socialized me the most. I have been socialized to think that men are better than a woman, that you can only be rich if you're born rich and that white is the superior race. Being a man is everything for a young boy. When we are young we are told to be strong, don’t show emotion, be brave, and don’t do “girly things”. Throughout school, I would see kids get teased by his friends because he wore pink or was weak compared to his friends. Growing up I wasn't super strong so I would feel left out if people were arm wrestling or do anything dealing with any strength related because I would not want to embarrass myself. Men are socialized very different than women because men are socialized through The Man Box, The Man Box is a collection of all the things that make a man a man. A quote that I liked from the video “A Call To All Men” by Tony Porter, an African American from the Bronx New York, is “That men lead, and they follow and do what we say; Men are superior;women are inferior; That men are strong; women are weak; That woman is of less value; property of men, and objects:” Men have to follow a bunch of rules because fear of being excluded from the man box.” Growing up as a boy may seem easy from the outside but from my experience, it is hard because you can't truly express yourself. The class is everything in life it decides what we can and can't do because the class is a representation of our wealth. I was born into a middle-class family and I know that I can have a future and even excel if I try. I can plan a future for myself if I work hard for it. Wealth in America is very unfair and here is an example of how unfair it is. In the video “Wealth And Inequality In America,” it talks about how much wealth is shared between the top and bottom of the wealth in America. The most important quote in this video is “ one percent of America has 40% of all the nations wealth. 80% of the nation has only seven percent of the nation's wealth.” Being in the middle class I have been told to feel lucky for all I have. The race is a big part of society because it divides us. Growing up in Durango there is not a lot of diversity it is mainly a white town. I feel I fit in in Durango because I don't feel like I don't belong to the people around me. Throughout my education, I have unconsciously been taught that white people have all the power. An example of school teaching me that white people are superior is the time in fifth grade when we were learning about Christopher Columbus and how he helped natives. Because of that project, I thought that all white people were good and had the power of other races. In some places like San Diego all the different races group in different districts of the city. Racism is unconsciously taught to kids through the schooling system Negative Socialization does not help our society advance and some people are breaking negative socialization. One example of people breaking negative socialization is Feminist marches because that are marching for the equality of women. This breaks negative socialization because it helps brakes The Man Box. I have been socialized to think that men are better than the woman, that you can only be rich if you're born rich and that white is the superior race. Socialization is the most important thing in our lives because it is why we are who we are. |
